How can you possibly call it work when you are shooting the people who made the soundtrack to your life? I had the sheer joy of shooting Black Star Riders last night as they performed a pre-tour warmup at Marshall Amplification in Bletchley. Scott Gorham has always been a guitar hero of mine and the passage of time has merely served to reinforce his place up there with the greats.
Black Star Riders
Black Star Riders are Ricky Warwick, Scott Gorham, Damon Johnson, Marco mendoza and Jimmy Degrasso and they are heading out on the road with a mix of new songs from their album and lizzy classics. Looks like they are headedfor success and the partnership between Scott and Damon Johnson was also wonderful to watch.
The lighting wasn’t great last night which is a shame. I never know why places as well worn as The Marshall Theater don’t sort this out – I guess its music first second and last but the quality of the images from their gigs would be greatly enhanced by the occasional use of a stage front white light o the talent. I can understand it at the O2 in Oxford where the band pays extra but for an industry PR showcase?
Fortunately I had my flahses on me and so was able to get a bit of bounce off the black ceiling – nobody seemed to mind (usually you cant use flash). I did feel a bit sorry for the other phographers as even shooting at 3000 ISO on the Canon 1DX ot was still dark. Anyway not much to say but wanted to share these images with you – go see Black Star Riders and buy the album – its all good stuff.
You can read more about the gig and see more of my images on the Classic Rock website and see my favorite image of the evening as the opening image on my homepage www.angusthomas.com
